Q: What is Postscript and why do I need/not need it?
PCL vs Postscript
Printer Control Language or PCL is a common printing language used widely by many different printer manufacturers. PCL is supported by many different Operating Systems which allows for the same printer to work in many different environments. PCL is device dependent. This means that the drivers for this language utilize the printer hardware for creating some of the printed data, usually graphics data such as fill areas, underlines or fonts. This allows the computer to process the print job quickly and efficiently. The printer is then responsible to complete the creation and processing of page data. Individual printers may perform these tasks differently giving you a slightly different output.
Fast print processing. Widely supported in many different Operating System platforms.
The same print job on two different printers may vary slightly. Quality of graphics is dependent on the print device. Not supported in most Macintosh environments.
PostScript language or PS is a common printing language also used widely by many different printer manufacturer. It is used heavily in Macintosh platforms and for graphic applications in several platforms. Unlike PCL, Postscript is device independent. This means that the Postscript language creates all of the print data and does not rely on the printer for print data. This allow the output to be consistent when printed on more than one type of printer or print device. Specifically, the graphic objects will be consistent and in some cases of higher quality than PCL.
Makes direct plotting of .PDF files seamless with one click Graphical objects are often more detailed The same print file should print identically on two or more different print devices. (This most beneficial when used for printing drafts on one printer then sending out to a printing company for production)
Print processing can be slower Not found in as many platforms as PCL Print file and memory requirements are larger.
Q: Do you have any refurbished machines?
A: Yes. Contact us for more information about our wide selection of refurbished equipment.
Q: How do you make a .plt (plot) file?
A: When you go to print a file, the driver page opens up. In that page there will be a box to check reading “print to file”. Check that box and hit print/OK. Instead of printing, a box will show up for you to save the file. Give the file a name, choose a folder for it wherever you would like, and hit OK again. Now you have a .plt file that you can send for anyone else to print.

Q: I found a machine for sale on the internet, is it a bad idea to purchase this way?
A: We recommend against buying equipment from online only vendors. These are large machines and you don’t want them to show up at your front door in a big crate for you to uncrate, assemble, install and hope it works. If you buy from us, we are here for you every step of the way. We will install the machine and stand behind it 100%. If there are any problems, we’re here to back you up and communicate with the manufacturer if necessary.
Q: Do you offer financing?
A: Yes! We offer many different financing options and lease programs to meet your needs. Please contact us and we will work out the best solution for you.
